Why Teachers Make The Best Event Planners
For those of you who do not know me, I am a teacher turned event planner. While some may think that educating children and planning parties are two different arenas, the skill sets required to mold the future citizens of tomorrow and plan life’s most cherished celebrations are actually the same! Here’s why….
Having Strong Communication: Both fields require responding to emails in a timely fashion, making phone calls to coordinate meetings, and talking with other professionals to ensure that everyone’s needs are met.
Building Relationships: Showing kindness, learning about peoples’ hobbies and interests as well as building strong connections earns trust.
Being Detail-Oriented: Crafting a lesson that takes students step by step from direct instruction to independent work is the same as building a detailed timeline that maps out the day for all of the vendors to have a successful event.
Thinking Critically: Creating the classroom layout is no different than designing the floorplan of a reception space. Both require the placing of furniture, designing of walkways, and an understanding of entrances and exits.
Multitasking: Whether students are asking millions of questions at a time, or I am coordinating several moving parts at an event, managing it all while staying calm, cool, and collected is essential.
At the end of the day, both professions leave me with a “grade” of success. Whether my students scored well on an assessment, or my client raved about a celebration, earning an “A+” is what makes it all worth it!
